Company History

Amonix Incorporated was founded in 1989 with a commitment to develop cost effective, more environmentally friendly and readily available energy to consumers through the use of advanced solar power generation.

Through research and applied technology, Amonix developed the back junction point contact solar cell – a cell that holds the world record for sunlight – to – electricity conversion efficiency for a terrestrial high-concentration solar cell produced in a commercial environment (25.5% average efficiency). This accomplishment earned Amonix the coveted R&D Award a “one of the world’s 100 most technologically significant new products of 1994”.

The success with the solar cell paved the way for the development of a High Concentration PV system (HCPV). Historically high concentration systems had not been designed because of the lack of a cost effective cell. Also, mechanical structures for concentrating solar systems were configured with bulky, box-type module construction and were difficult to manufacture, transport and install. Amonix overcame these obstacles with a unique patented technology that eliminates the box-like modules and integrates Fresnel lens parquets, solar cell receiver plates, and sun-tracking structures into one assembly, greatly reducing manufacturing and installation costs.

Amonix's current generation of its IHCPV system represents a commercially viable product that generates electricity reliably and efficiently from the sun.
